Join us in marking 15 years of fighting food waste at our celebratory fundraising event

We are delighted to announce a special fundraiser meal with our partners renowned zero waste restaurant Silo, to mark 15 years of FareShare Sussex tackling food waste and fighting hunger across Sussex and Surrey.

Multi award-winning restaurant, Silo is in the heart of Brighton city centre, and will host the landmark anniversary event from 6pm on Thursday 22 November.

The celebratory evening menu will combine the innovative culinary skills of the Silo chefs using a delicious array of surplus FareShare Sussex food, combined with local seasonal produce to create five mouth-watering courses, including a complimentary glass of local wine served on arrival.

Acclaimed author and campaigner on the environmental and social impact of food waste, Tristram Stuart, will also provide a special guest appearance to speak at the event. Other activities on the night also include a silent auction with an array of prizes donated by local business supporters – the proceeds of which will generate valuable funds to support FareShare Sussex’s work.

The partnership was established with Silo earlier this year with a discretionary £1 donation on Silo’s food bills offering customers the opportunity to support the food waste fight when they visit the restaurant.

Rachel Carless, Development Manager at FareShare Sussex, said: “Since first opening 15 years ago, FareShare Sussex has helped and continues to feed thousands each and every week – a phenomenal achievement which is testament to the charity’s tireless commitment to fighting hunger and reducing food waste.

“We do a great job of helping those experiencing food insecurity in our communities, providing meals to vulnerable people from all walks of life, whether children, elderly, homeless, or victims of domestic abuse. But we know there is a demand for greater support, which is why we are so grateful to Silo for its incredible generosity in supporting our mission and hosting the event.

“In Sussex, we have ambitious growth plans and aim to triple the amount of food redistributed over the next three years – so that we can help feed more people across the region who vitally need it.

“We encourage anyone interested in helping the vulnerable in their community to join us at Silo in celebrating an important 15 years of fighting hunger in Sussex – any support can make a real difference!”

Doug McMaster, Silo owner and head chef said: “Tackling food waste is a two sided coin. Silo’s is a model that prevents waste from the outset, and FareShare ensure the surplus created by the wider food industry does not end up in the bin. We’re extremely grateful to partner with FareShare Sussex, knowing that we can see both sides to better understand the bigger picture. Our partnership will serve as a reminder of why we do what we do.”
